What Is My Skin Type

What Is My Skin Type

How do you narrow down the right skincare routine for your skin? There are so many types of skincare products to choose from! First we’ve got to understand your skin type; essentially, understanding the problems your skin encounters helps determine the products that work best for you.

What are the Different Skin Types?

There are four main skin types: combination skin, dry/dehydrated skin, oily/breakout-prone skin, and normal skin.

Combination Skin

Combination skin is skin that is dry/dehydrated in some areas, and oily/prone to breakouts in others. Typically, your skin is oily in what is called the “T Zone.” The “T Zone” is the skin on the forehead, the skin on the nose, and the skin on the chin (together, they make a “T” shape). With combination skin, the “T Zone” would be the problematic area, whereas the rest of your skin will either be dry or normal.

With combination skin, you could use products to address both your T Zone and the rest of your face separately. Or you could try products that work on all skin types. A good toner, like our Silver + Licorice Root Protective Facial Spray which won’t irritate sensitive skin or cause excessive dryness or breakouts, would be a great product to try for combination skin.

Dry/Dehydrated Skin

Dry skin tends to feel tight and uncomfortable, flake, and develop premature aging faster than oilier skin types. Your skin may be dry for two different reasons.  Your skin could be dry because it is not producing enough oil, leaving your skin feeling itchy and flaky. Another reason is because your skin is not retaining enough moisture, leaving your skin feeling tight and prone to wrinkles.

With dry skin, it’s all about moisture. Moisturizing helps reduce skin irritability and provides your skin with the necessary hydration to last throughout the day. Using a moisturizer will also help improve your skin texture while adding a healthy, glowy appearance to your skin.

If you are looking for a moisturizer to incorporate into your skin care routine, try our Hemp + Vitamin C Glow Face Oil – a fan favorite that will calm, soothe, and replenish hydration for dry and problem skin. It’s also gentle enough for sensitive skin. Add our Silver + Licorice Root Protective Facial Spray for added moisture throughout the day! Simply spritz this spray whenever your skin is feeling dry or dehydrated.

Oily/Breakout-Prone Skin

Oily skin typically has a shine all over that appears soon after cleansing. With oily skin, you are probably no stranger to blotting paper, but did you know that there are other skincare products that can help alleviate excess oil production?

For example, incorporating exfoliants and clay masks into your skincare routine will do wonders for your oily skin. Our Pearl and Charcoal Mask goes on wet, heats up using your body heat, and dries before you wash it  off leaving your skin feeling clean, rebalanced, and radiant. You should still moisturize your skin, even if you are producing excess oily. Using an alcohol-free moisturizer like our  Pearl Activating Elixir works on all skin types, including oily/breakout-prone skin!

Normal Skin

Normal skin has moderate oil production designed to keep the skin moist and healthy. You would know if you had normal skin, as you wouldn’t be prone to excess breakouts or dryness, fine lines, tightness of the skin, or wrinkles.

With normal skin types, there is more leeway in terms of which products work for you. Just be sure that you are using a cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturizer in your daily skincare routine, and be careful not to overwash or over-moisturize your face as it can lead to problems down the road. Just because you have normal skin doesn’t mean that it can’t be sensitive!
