What Are The 4 Steps To Skincare?

Determining a skincare routine that works for you can be tough. There are many things you need to know like what skin type you have and the order by which you apply your products. If you are looking for the answers to those questions, you’re in the right place! Olecea Beaute is here to help!

Before You Begin: Determine Your Skin Type

There are four general skin types: normal skin, oily skin, dry skin, and combination skin (which is dry in some areas, oily in others). Knowing your skin type is important: keeping it in mind can help you determine which products work best for you.

No matter your skin type, a good rule of thumb is to apply products with the smallest molecules first so that they can be absorbed before products with larger molecules. It is also beneficial to apply water-based products before oil-based products to facilitate penetration.

Here is our recommendation for a healthy and effective daily skincare routine:

Step One: Cleanser

Whether it is your environment, makeup, or simply over-productive sebaceous glands that leave your skin feeling oily, the first step in a successful skincare routine is cleansing your skin of any impurities.

Using a cleanser not only helps your skin maintain a proper level of moisture, but it also helps improve the texture and appearance of your skin through removing irritants and encouraging water and product retention.

If you are looking for an effective cleanser, try our Coconut + Sea Sugar Foaming Cleanser. It cleanses the skin with coconut derived surfactant and natural sugars that deeply hydrate while protecting the skin’s natural barrier.

Simply apply a penny-size amount into clean hands and lather onto your face. Make sure to keep lathering around all areas of your face, including your hairline and jaw, but be careful around your eyes and mouth. Gently wash off with warm water.

Step Two: Toner

A toner’s job is meant to gently refresh your skin without stripping it of its natural moisture. This means toner won’t irritate sensitive skin or cause excessive dryness. Toner also prepares the skin to drink up your post-cleansing moisturizer and any other skin treatments that you may apply.

To use a toner, simply spritz a cotton round or pad with an alcohol-free toner, like our Silver + Licorice Root Protective Facial Spray. Swipe over your face, neck and décolleté to complete the cleanse and remove hard water that can irritate the skin and leave a dulling residue.

This allows your skin to better receive the benefits of your anti-aging face serum, face oils, or other products that you apply. Spritz your face mist all over gently tapping and pressing the toner into the skin with your palms and fingers, to facilitate absorption and hydration. Try working from the center of your face outwards to help detoxify and improve circulation.

Step 3: Serum

Serums are concentrated formulas (usually a gel, or oil) that provide much-needed ingredients to your skin. Serums nourish and soothe moisture-deprived, sensitive, and irritated skin, and help reduce wrinkles and fine lines on the skin.

To apply a serum, apply a dime-size amount onto clean hands, and gently rub into your skin with circular motions. A serum will absorb right into your skin, so no need to wash off. We recommend letting it rest for a minute or two before moving on in your skincare routine.

If you are looking for a gel serum that provides the perfect amount of hydration, we promise, the Olecea Pearl Activating Elixir won’t disappoint! With ingredients like niacinamide, rose flower water, lingongberry stem cells, and hyaluronic acid, and infused with protective antioxidants and soothing anti-inflammatory extracts, this toner is perfect for all skin types.

Fun Fact: If your skin needs extra hydration, mixing the Olecea Pearl Activating Elixir with your foundation before applying is a wonderful idea. It will create a dewy luminous look and prevent makeup from settling into fine lines. Makeup is transformed into an anti-aging foundation, that protects against damaging UV and infrared rays the whole time you are wearing your makeup.

Step 4: Moisturizer

The last step in your skin care routine should be using a moisturizer. Moisturizing helps reduce skin irritability and provides your skin with the necessary hydration to last throughout the day. Using a moisturizer will also help improve your skin texture while adding a healthy, glowy appearance to your skin.

If you are looking for a moisturizer to incorporate into your skin care routine, try our Hemp + Vitamin C Glow Face Oil – a fan favorite that will calm, soothe, and replenish hydration for problem skin. It’s also gentle enough for sensitive skin.

To use, massage 2–3 drops onto freshly cleansed skin - face, neck, and décolleté in an upward circular motion. Press into the skin with the palm of your hands to further penetrate the active ingredients. Use morning and night, and as needed, to relieve dryness.
